From 2005 - 2008 a Dutch team of consultants, including experts from the State Inspectorate for Cultural Heritage and the Dutch Customs, worked with Bulgarian partners to enhance the implementation of European approaches concerning movable cultural heritage in Bulgaria. This article presents approach and experiences in the project, including recommendations for further development in the future.
It concentrates on three topics: the development of public bodies with a view to their EU-oriented tasks; the co-operation between the state and (organized) civil society; and the development of policies and legislation in the field of cultural heritage.
